VW/Audi MIB2 Discover Media (CarPlay/Android Auto) — Troubleshooting Guide

Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired (VW/Audi MIB2 Discover Media head unit) and the problem is still happening.
Important: Please do not open/disassemble the unit or force the screen/connector pins.

  • Step 1: Confirm battery voltage
    • Verify battery is fully charged (low voltage can cause reboot loops or black screen).
    • If battery was recently replaced/disconnected, recheck fuses and perform a proper power reset.
  • Step 2: Check radio/display fuses
    • Inspect infotainment/radio fuses with a test light (not just visual).
    • Confirm both constant 12V and ignition-switched 12V feeds are present.
  • Step 3: Inspect quad-lock connector
    • Remove the unit and inspect for:
      • Bent or pushed pins
      • Loose locking lever
      • Corrosion or moisture
    • Ensure connector is fully seated and locked in place.
  • Step 4: Screen vs. brain unit check
    • If screen is black but sound works, verify the display ribbon/connector (if separate).
    • If completely dead (no sound, no logo), focus on power/ground supply.
  • Step 5: CarPlay / Android Auto not working
    • Test with a known-good USB cable.
    • Try a different phone.
    • Inspect USB port wiring (common failure point).
    • Check infotainment settings to confirm CarPlay/Android Auto is enabled.
  • Step 6: No sound or intermittent audio
    • Check amplifier (if equipped) and related fuse.
    • Scan vehicle for MOST/CAN communication faults.
    • Confirm speakers work with another audio source if possible.
  • Step 7: Reboot loop or stuck on logo
    • Perform hard reset (hold power button 10–15 seconds).
    • If vehicle recently had coding or battery work, confirm correct coding with scan tool.
  • Step 8: Scan for fault codes
    • Use a scan tool capable of reading infotainment module.
    • Look for CAN/MOST communication codes.
    • If multiple modules show communication faults, inspect vehicle network wiring.
  • Step 9: Aftermarket additions
    • Remove any aftermarket cameras, amplifiers, or accessories temporarily.
    • Many infotainment issues are caused by add-on wiring interference.

If the unit powers on and operates normally on the bench but fails in the vehicle, the issue is most commonly vehicle-side power, ground, fuse, connector, or network related.
