Digital Clock / Information Display (Dash Clock) – Troubleshooting Guide

Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired Digital Clock / Information Display and the problem is still happening.
Important: Please do not open/disassemble the display—check vehicle power, grounds, dimmer inputs, and wiring first.

  • Step 1: Confirm installation
    • Verify the display connector is fully seated and locked
    • Inspect for bent/pushed pins, loose terminals, or corrosion at the connector
    • Confirm the harness isn’t pinched by trim pieces and isn’t pulling on the plug
  • Step 2: Verify power and ground
    • Check the related interior fuse(s) for the clock/display (some are constant power, some are ignition)
    • Confirm the display has a solid ground (weak ground can cause flicker, resets, or no display)
    • If the display resets when other accessories are used, suspect low system voltage or a shared ground issue
  • Step 3: Check illumination / dimmer behavior
    • If the clock is very dim or only visible at certain times, test the dash dimmer (illumination input)
    • Verify the vehicle’s interior illumination circuit is working normally (other dash lights respond to dimmer)
    • Aftermarket LED conversions or stereo installs can backfeed or disrupt illumination circuits
  • Step 4: If the display is blank, missing segments, or intermittent
    • Inspect for moisture/water intrusion around the dash opening and connector
    • Wiggle-test the connector/harness while watching the display (spread terminals can cause intermittent power loss)
    • Check for cracked/brittle wiring near the connector (common on older vehicles)
  • Step 5: If buttons don’t set the time (H/M/R or similar)
    • Confirm the buttons aren’t stuck mechanically due to trim pressure
    • Check for spill residue or contamination in the button area around the dash
    • If multiple dash buttons are also acting up, suspect a shared ground or illumination circuit issue
  • Step 6: If the issue started after recent work
    • Re-check anything recently touched (radio install, dash removal, battery work, fuse swaps)
    • Confirm no wires were pinched under the trim and no connector was left partially latched
  • Course of action
    • If the problem persists, contact UpFix with your VIN, exact symptoms (blank/dim/flicker/missing segments/buttons), and any related codes so we can help narrow it down. Call or email for assistance.
