Mercedes-Benz 9G-Tronic 725.0 (VGSNAG3) Conductor Plate TCM — Troubleshooting Guide
Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired (725.0 9G-Tronic Conductor Plate TCM) and the problem is still happening.
Important: Please do not open/disassemble the module or probe pins from the front of the connector.

Step 1: Confirm the exact fault codes

Scan the TCM and save all codes with freeze-frame.

If the codes are not P073E00 (Reverse cannot be engaged) or P07B700 (pressure sensor signal invalid), the issue is likely elsewhere in the transmission system.

Step 2: Check transmission fluid level and condition

Verify correct fluid level using the OEM procedure for 9G-Tronic.

Burnt smell, heavy debris, or low fluid can cause slip/pressure faults that look like a TCM problem.

Step 3: Inspect the transmission connector and sleeve area

Check for fluid wicking into the connector, bent pins, damaged locking tab, or cracked connector housing.

Any broken connector or damaged plug area can cause intermittent/no communication and false sensor faults.

Step 4: Verify power and ground to the transmission electronics

Check related fuses with a test light (not visual).
-
Load-test power and ground circuits at the transmission connector if possible.

Step 5: Check CAN communication integrity
-
If you have U-codes or intermittent comms, inspect CAN wiring near the transmission, battery tray, and underbody harness routing for chafing or corrosion.

Look for water intrusion at splice points and connectors.

Step 6: Verify internal transmission issues are not the root cause

If reverse is missing or you have harsh shifts, confirm there are no mechanical/hydraulic issues (valve body, solenoids, clutch packs).

A pressure control problem can trigger sensor faults even when the conductor plate is OK.

Step 7: Confirm adaptation and programming status

If the unit was replaced or the vehicle recently had programming work, the transmission may require proper programming/coding and adaptation reset with a capable scan tool.

Step 8: If the problem started after other work
-
Recheck anything recently touched (battery service, wiring repairs, transmission service, connector reseat).

Loose grounds and partially-seated connectors are very common after service.
