Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler 2-Plug PCM — Troubleshooting Guide (SKU Group)

Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler 2-Plug PCM and the problem is still happening.
Important: Please do not open/disassemble the PCM or force/probe connector pins (terminals can spread and cause new faults).

  • Step 1: Confirm correct PCM + correct programming
    • Verify the part number matches the vehicle/application (wrong PCM can cause crank/no-start, limp mode, or no-comm).
    • If the PCM was replaced, confirm the vehicle had the required in-vehicle programming (VIN/security/config).
  • Step 2: Battery, cables, and grounds
    • Load-test the battery and verify clean/tight terminals.
    • Inspect/clean the main engine ground(s) and battery-to-chassis ground.
    • Check for corrosion inside the battery terminals/cable ends.
  • Step 3: Fuses and relays (key-on and crank)
    • Check all PCM/ECM/IGN/ASD fuses in both fuse boxes.
    • Verify ASD/Main relay operation (should energize at key-on and stay on during crank).
    • Swap the ASD/Main relay with a known-good matching relay.
  • Step 4: PCM connectors + water intrusion
    • Unplug both PCM connectors and inspect for bent/pushed pins, loose terminals, corrosion/green buildup, moisture.
    • Inspect harness routing near the battery, airbox, and radiator support for rub-through.
  • Step 5: If the complaint is “crank/no-start”
    • Check crankshaft position sensor and wiring (very common).
    • Verify fuel pump operation and fuel pressure during crank.
    • Check for injector pulse + spark while cranking (loss can be sensor/ASD/power related).
  • Step 6: If the complaint is “starts then stalls”
    • Re-check ASD relay power hold during crank/run.
    • Check security/immobilizer behavior (key light/messages) and verify programming was completed.
  • Step 7: If the complaint is “no communication / won’t scan”
    • Confirm the diagnostic port has power and ground (a dead port can look like a dead PCM).
    • Check CAN wiring integrity (shorted CAN lines or a module on the network can block comms).
    • Unplug recent add-ons (remote start, radio taps, trackers) and re-check comms.
  • Step 8: If the complaint is “limp mode / reduced power / shifting issues”
    • Scan for codes and address sensor/network codes first (throttle, MAP, crank/cam, CAN).
    • Inspect connectors for any sensors recently serviced (easy to leave a plug loose).
  • Step 9: If symptoms started after repairs or wiring work
    • Re-check anything that was touched: grounds, fuse/relay seating, sensor plugs, harness routing/zip ties.
  • Step 10: Final check that catches hidden issues
    • Have a shop perform voltage-drop tests on PCM power and grounds while cranking (finds hidden resistance that normal checks miss).
