I'm considering buying a used 2001 RAV4 that doesnt as yet have transmission
issues. If 1 get this SUV, should I have its TCM checked out right away, and would
doing that make this model's transmission issues of little worry?

I would definitely recommend getting it refurbished if it hasn't been so already since a failing TCM will cause the transmission to shift harder and if it goes unchecked, there may eventually be physical transmission wear-n-tear.
