Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired (Toyota/Lexus Climate Control) and the problem is still happening.
Important: Please do not open/disassemble the module. Opening the unit can damage it and may void warranty coverage.
-
Step 1: Confirm what’s still wrong
-
Common issues for this SKU group:
-
Backlighting not working
-
LCD display issues
-
Pixelated/garbled display screen
-
Step 2: Verify the dimmer setting first (quick check)
-
Turn the dash dimmer wheel/knob all the way up
-
If the cluster/dash lights are dim, the climate control backlight may also be dim/off
-
Step 3: Do a full reset (clears lockups)
-
Ignition OFF
-
Remove key / keep key fob away
-
Disconnect negative battery terminal for 2–3 minutes
-
Reconnect and retest
-
Step 4: Check the fuses that feed illumination + ACC power
-
Check any fuses labeled:
-
PANEL / ILLUM / TAIL / DIMMER
-
RADIO / ACC / CIG / ECU-B (varies by model)
-
If possible, test fuses with a meter (a fuse can look good and still fail)
-
Step 5: Confirm the rest of the dash illumination works
-
If multiple interior lights are out (radio, shifter, cluster backlighting), this is usually a vehicle-side illumination circuit issue (not the climate module)
-
Step 6: Reseat the connectors (very common after reinstall)
-
Disconnect negative battery terminal
-
Unplug and firmly replug the climate control connectors until fully latched
-
Retest before reinstalling trim
-
Step 7: Inspect connector pins and harness condition
-
Look for:
-
Bent or pushed-back pins
-
Corrosion/green residue
-
Loose terminal fitment (pins look “spread”)
-
Aftermarket radio wiring or splices (common cause of illumination issues)
-
If the display/backlight flickers when you gently move the connector, suspect a pin-fit/harness problem
-
Step 8: If the LCD is blank but backlighting works
-
Increase brightness/dimmer and retest
-
If still blank, scan the vehicle (if available) for any HVAC/body codes and record them
-
Step 9: If the LCD is pixelated/garbled or missing segments
-
Confirm battery voltage is stable (low voltage can make LCDs act strange)
-
Retest after a battery reset and after driving a short time (some modules reinitialize after power-up)
-
Step 10: If the issue continues
-
Most common causes after reinstall:
-
Blown illumination fuse, dimmer circuit issue, loose connector/pin-fit, or aftermarket wiring problems
-
Contact UpFix with your VIN, exact symptoms (backlight vs LCD), and whether other dash illumination is affected so we can narrow it down quickly
