Troubleshooting Guide (SKU Group)

Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Body Control Module (BCM) and the problem is still happening. Please do not open/disassemble the IPC or BCM or probe connector pins with tools that can spread terminals.

Step 1: Make Sure Both the IPC and BCM Are Installed

  • This fused service requires both units to be installed and tested together.
  • Confirm the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Body Control Module (BCM) are both connected.
  • Make sure all plugs are fully seated and locked.
  • If only one unit was reinstalled, reinstall both before judging the results.

Step 2: Perform a Basic Key-On Check

  • Turn the key to ON and watch the cluster closely.
  • Check whether the gauges sweep properly and whether the cluster powers up normally.
  • Note exactly what is still wrong:
    • Cluster dead / no power
    • Gauges inoperative
    • Backlighting not working
    • Display / warning light issue
    • Door locks acting up
    • Power windows not working
    • No communication with BCM

Step 3: Check Battery Voltage, Grounds, and Main Power Feeds

  • Low voltage can cause gauge issues, communication loss, false warning lights, and BCM problems.
  • Make sure the battery is fully charged and terminals are clean and tight.
  • Confirm battery-to-chassis and engine-to-chassis grounds are clean and secure.
  • Weak or unstable voltage can mimic a bad IPC or BCM.

Step 4: Check Related Fuses

  • Inspect the fuses related to the IPC, BCM, IGN, ACC, and body electrical system.
  • If a fuse is blown, replace it once.
  • If it blows again, stop and have the circuit inspected for a short.
  • Do not continue replacing blown fuses without finding the cause.

Step 5: Inspect IPC and BCM Connectors

  • Unplug and reconnect the IPC and BCM connectors until fully seated.
  • Inspect for:
    • Bent pins
    • Pushed-back terminals
    • Corrosion
    • Moisture
    • Damaged wiring
  • If the dash or BCM area was previously serviced, double-check for loose or pinched wiring.

Step 6: If the Cluster Still Has Power / Gauge / Lighting Problems

  • If the IPC powers up but certain gauges or lights still do not work, verify the BCM is also installed and connected properly.
  • Because these systems work closely together, one missing or poorly connected module can cause misleading symptoms in the other.
  • If only one gauge or one warning function is wrong, the issue may still be vehicle-side.

Step 7: If You Have No Communication with the BCM

  • Confirm BCM fuses have power.
  • Confirm the BCM has good power and ground at the vehicle-side connector.
  • Check the OBD-II port:
    • Pin 16 should have battery voltage
    • Pins 4 and 5 should have good grounds
  • Inspect the CAN / communication wiring for damage, shorts, or corrosion.
  • If possible, try a capable professional scan tool, since some basic readers may not communicate properly with all body modules.
  • If the BCM still shows no communication after power, ground, fuse, and network checks, the problem may still be in the vehicle wiring or network.

Step 8: If Door Locks or Power Windows Still Do Not Work

  • These symptoms can point to BCM-related issues, but they can also be caused by vehicle-side wiring, switches, relays, or door harness faults.
  • If the IPC and BCM were both reinstalled correctly and these functions are still unchanged, inspect the related circuits on the vehicle side before assuming another module problem.

Step 9: Scan the Vehicle for Codes

  • Scan all available modules, not just engine codes.
  • Look for:
    • BCM communication codes
    • U-codes / network faults
    • Voltage-related faults
    • Body electrical faults
  • Write down all codes before clearing anything.
  • These details help separate module faults from wiring or network problems.

Step 10: If Symptoms Are Still Unchanged

  • Have a qualified shop perform loaded power/ground checks at the IPC and BCM connectors.
  • Intermittent or unchanged issues are often caused by wiring faults, poor terminal fit, corrosion, fuse block problems, or network faults.
  • If both units are installed correctly and the symptoms are still unchanged, contact tech support with a clear list of what is and is not working.
