UpFix Troubleshooting Guide – Chevy Trax LCD Instrument Cluster (IPC) Repair (2017–2022)

Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired Chevy Trax LCD IPC and the problem is still happening.
Important: Please do not open/disassemble the cluster—check vehicle power, grounds, fuses, and network inputs first.

  • Step 1: Confirm the exact symptom
    • LCD screen blank/black but backlighting or warning icons still present
    • LCD dim/flickering/intermittent
    • Cluster resets/reboots while driving
    • Gauges dead or inaccurate
    • “No Communication” / multiple warning lights after install
  • Step 2: Do a full power reset
    • Key off, remove key, wait 3–5 minutes for modules to go to sleep
    • Disconnect negative battery cable for 2–3 minutes, reconnect, then retest
    • If the issue only happens during crank, suspect battery/voltage drop
  • Step 3: Check fuses the right way
    • Verify any fuses labeled IPC / CLUSTER / GAUGES / IGN / BCM / RADIO / INFO (names vary)
    • Use a meter/test light to confirm power on both sides of each fuse
    • If a fuse blows again, stop and locate the short before replacing more fuses
  • Step 4: Verify power and ground quality
    • A weak ground or low system voltage can cause LCD flicker, resets, or a dead cluster
    • Confirm battery terminals are clean/tight and main grounds are clean/secure
    • If symptoms change when headlights, blower, or defrost are turned on, suspect voltage drop
  • Step 5: Reseat connectors and inspect pins
    • Remove/reinstall the cluster so connectors are fully seated and latched
    • Inspect for bent pins, pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture
    • Confirm the harness isn’t pulled tight (can cause intermittent loss)
  • Step 6: If you have warning lights / “Service” messages
    • Scan the vehicle for codes in BCM / IPC / ECM (not just generic OBD-II)
    • If you see multiple U-codes (communication codes), suspect CAN wiring, power/ground, or another module pulling the network down
  • Step 7: If the LCD is still blank
    • Confirm the vehicle isn’t in a low-voltage condition (weak battery/charging issue)
    • Confirm the issue isn’t a separate display/module (some trims route info through other modules)
    • If the cluster worked briefly then failed, suspect intermittent power/ground or connector pin fitment
  • Step 8: If the problem still persists
    • Send VIN, your exact symptom, and any BCM/IPC codes so we can pinpoint whether it’s cluster-side or vehicle-side quickly
