BCM Repair

Truck is a rebuilder. Was run into a ditch, airbags deployed. Everything's fixed up, but there are just a few electrical gremlins that all point to the BCM:

  • Electric door locks don't work (replaced solenoids)
  • Dome lights don't work
  • Center seat cigarette lighter has no power (no power to Aux 2 fuse)
  • Right Rear Brake/Turn signals don't work (rear right parking and reverse lights work)

Stock rubber steering wheel only had cruise control buttons. I upgraded to a leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise control and audio buttons. If it's possible to reprogram the BCM to recognize the additional steering wheel audio controls, that would be awesome.

The BCM is the gateway for other modules under the dash. The only way to get the steering wheel functions to work is by ensuring all the modules that communication with that steering wheel are replaced or re-programmed. It could be just the BCM, but more likely than not, the radio head unit, control box, and possibly HMI, will all need to be replaced/re-programmed.

That isn't something we support or can help the customer with since they're modifying the vehicle to fit something that wasn't on the vehicle originally. As for the why some functions currently don't work, perhaps a replacement BCM that supports the steering wheel controls can be added. However, those units are VIN encoded. This isn't something we can help you with.
