I have a 2005 Ford Escape, and it appears like the PCM failed/died as a result of a misfire. The dealer determined that the Escape needed a new PCM, and I wanted to know what my alternatives were for replacing it. Part number 5L8A-12A650-LH is shown on my vin as the required replacement. I was wondering whether I needed to use this specific component or if I could use any PCM designed for the 2005 as long as it was programmed with my vin and the keys were recoded to operate with the new pcm. I'm hoping there's a PCM specialist out there who can send me in the proper path. Thanks.
