Dodge RAM TIPM / IPM (Integrated Power Module) – Troubleshooting Guide
Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired Dodge TIPM/IPM and the problem is still happening.
Important: Please do not open/disassemble the TIPM—check fuses, relays, power/grounds, wiring, and the affected circuits first.
- Step 1: Confirm installation
- Verify the TIPM is fully mounted and all connectors are fully seated/locked
- Inspect pins for bent/pushed pins, corrosion, or looseness at every connector
- Ensure the harness isn’t pulled tight, pinched, or rubbing (common intermittent cause)
- Step 2: Battery voltage and grounds
- Confirm the battery is healthy and fully charged
- Clean/tighten battery terminals and main engine/chassis grounds
- Low voltage can cause TIPM-controlled relays to chatter or drop out
- Step 3: Check fuses/relays correctly
- Confirm correct fuse ratings and correct fuse locations (no “close enough” fuse swaps)
- Test fuses for power on both sides (key OFF / key ON where applicable)
- If equipped with removable relays, swap with known-good relays to rule out a simple relay fault
- Step 4: If you have “No start / Stall / Fuel pump” complaints
- Determine which condition you have:
- No crank: focus on starter relay circuit, ignition switch, neutral safety/PRNDL, and grounds
- Crank/no start: confirm fuel pressure first (don’t assume TIPM)
- Check for fuel pump power/ground at the tank and inspect rear harness routing for rub-through
- A weak pump, poor ground, or wiring issue can mimic TIPM fuel pump faults
- Determine which condition you have:
- Step 5: If accessories act intermittent (lights, wipers, horn, etc.)
- Test the component directly (motor/pump/horn) to rule out a failed load
- Inspect the component connector for corrosion and confirm the ground is clean/tight
- Look for water intrusion in the TIPM area or damaged relay/fuse terminals
- Step 6: Check for water intrusion and prior handling/service
- Inspect for moisture, corrosion, or debris around the TIPM and connectors
- Look for aftermarket wiring taps (remote start, lights, audio) tied into TIPM circuits
- Step 7: If issues started after recent work
- Re-check anything recently touched (battery work, fuse/relay swaps, wiring repairs)
- Look for loose grounds, swapped fuses/relays, or pinched harness sections
- Course of action
- If the issue persists, contact UpFix with your VIN, exact symptoms, and any codes so we can help narrow it down. Call or email for assistance.
