Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired GM Convertible Folding Top Control Module and the problem is still happening.
- Step 1: Confirm the exact symptom
- Top does not work at all, works intermittently, or pump/motor not working
- Note if it fails only when hot/cold, after rain/wash, or only while driving
- Step 2: Verify battery voltage and charging health
- Convertibles are very voltage-sensitive
- Low voltage can cause the top module to disable operation or act intermittently
- If the battery was recently dead or jump-started, fully charge it and re-test
- Step 3: Check all convertible/top-related fuses and relays
- Check fuses for the folding top module, pump/motor, and any “body” or “top” labeled fuses
- If a fuse is blown, replace it once and re-test
- If it blows again, stop—inspect wiring and the pump/motor for a short before suspecting the module
- Step 4: Make sure conditions for operation are met
- Vehicle in PARK (or required gear position for your model)
- Parking brake status (if required by the vehicle)
- Trunk divider / cargo partition in the correct position (if equipped)
- Latches fully released/engaged as required
- Windows may need to be indexed/down slightly for operation (model dependent)
- Step 5: Scan the vehicle and record codes
- Perform a full vehicle scan, not only the engine
- Record codes in the Folding Top / BCM / related body modules
- If you have DTC 3680-01 (Short to Battery) or similar, go to Step 6–8
- Step 6: Inspect pump/motor and harness (most common cause of repeat failure)
- Inspect the pump/motor connector for corrosion, loose pins, moisture, or overheated terminals
- Inspect harness routing near hinges, trunk areas, and where the harness flexes
- Look for rubbed-through wiring that could short to power
- Step 7: Verify power and ground at the pump/motor
- Confirm power feed and ground integrity under load
- Weak grounds can mimic a bad module and cause intermittent operation
- Step 8: Inspect and reseat the control module connectors
- Inspect for corrosion/green pins, moisture, bent/pushed-out pins, loose terminals, or heat damage
- Reseat connectors fully and confirm latches lock
- If operation changes when moving the harness, suspect terminal tension/connector fitment
- Step 9: Check switches and position sensors
- If the top starts then stops, or only works sometimes, a latch/position sensor input may be inconsistent
- Inspect connector seating at latch switches and position sensors (especially in high-movement areas)
- Step 10: Re-test and re-scan
- Cycle the top multiple times (open/close) and confirm consistent operation
- Re-scan after testing and note which codes return immediately vs. only after operation
- If the issue is still present
- Call or email UpFix for the fastest help, especially if the issue happens immediately after install
