Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired (Chrysler/Dodge/Eagle/Plymouth BCM) and the problem is still happening.
- Step 1: Confirm the exact symptom
- Dash cluster failure (no speedometer/gauges), door locks not working, intermittent power issues, malfunctioning headlights, and/or no communication with BCM
- Note if the issue is constant or intermittent (only when cold, after bumps, after rain, etc.)
- Step 2: Verify battery voltage and battery connections
- Low voltage or loose/corroded battery connections can cause multiple body/electrical issues
- Confirm battery terminals are clean/tight and grounds are secure
- Step 3: Check related fuses first
- Check fuses for BCM/body, cluster, headlamps/lighting, and door locks
- If a fuse is blown, replace it once and re-test
- If it blows again, stop—inspect wiring and the affected circuit/component for a short
- Step 4: Perform a full vehicle scan (if available)
- Scan all modules and record any BCM/network/communication codes
- Clear codes and see what returns immediately
- If the BCM does not communicate, go to Step 5–7
- Step 5: Verify BCM power and ground
- Confirm constant battery power feeds and ignition feeds (key on) to the BCM
- Confirm grounds are solid under load (weak grounds can cause no-comm and random electrical faults)
- Step 6: Inspect and reseat BCM connectors
- Inspect for corrosion/green pins, moisture, bent/pushed-out pins, loose terminals, or heat damage
- Reseat connectors fully and confirm locking tabs are engaged
- If symptoms change when moving the harness, suspect terminal tension/connector fitment
- Step 7: Check for water intrusion and corrosion sources
- These vehicles commonly have issues from moisture near fuse/BCM areas
- Inspect surrounding harness/connector areas for signs of water tracks or corrosion
- Step 8: Symptom-specific checks
- Dash cluster dead/no gauges
- Confirm cluster fuses are good
- Inspect the cluster connector and dash ground points
- If the cluster powers on sometimes, suspect loose connector/ground before module failure
- Door locks inoperative
- If only one door fails, inspect that door actuator and door-jamb wiring first
- If all doors fail, focus on BCM power/ground and lock fuses/relays
- Headlights malfunctioning
- Inspect headlamp connectors for heat damage/corrosion
- Check for rubbed-through wiring near the front harness
- Intermittent power issues
- Inspect main grounds and any body grounds for looseness/corrosion
- Inspect fuse box terminals for poor contact
- Dash cluster dead/no gauges
- Step 9: Check for recent work that could have triggered it
- If the issue started after battery replacement, fuse work, stereo/remote-start/alarm work, or body repairs
- Re-check any splices, grounds, and connectors that may have been disturbed
- Step 10: Re-test and re-scan
- Re-test locks/lights/cluster operation multiple cycles
- Re-scan and note any codes that return immediately vs. only after operating the affected functions
- If the issue is still present
- Call or email UpFix for the fastest help, especially if the issue happens immediately after install
