Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired (BMW Central Locking GM BCM) and the problem is still happening.
- Step 1: Confirm the exact symptom
- Door locks not working, lock button not working, and/or windows not working (driver/passenger/rear)
- Note if it affects all doors/windows or only one door
- Step 2: Verify battery voltage and charging health
- Low voltage can disable comfort functions and cause “random” lock/window behavior
- If the battery was recently dead or jump-started, fully charge it and re-test
- Step 3: Check fuses related to central locking and power windows
- Check fuses for central locking, window circuits, and body electronics
- If a fuse is blown, replace it once and re-test
- If it blows again, stop—inspect wiring and the motor/actuator circuit for a short
- Step 4: Check basic switches/settings first
- Confirm the window lock switch is not engaged (if equipped)
- Test the lock/unlock from multiple inputs (key/remote if applicable, interior lock button, driver door switch)
- Step 5: Rule out door-specific wiring faults (very common)
- If only one door lock/window fails, inspect that door’s actuator/regulator and door-jamb wiring first
- Broken wires in the hinge/jamb area are common and can mimic a module issue
- Step 6: Inspect for water intrusion (common on BMW body modules)
- If symptoms happen after rain/wash or damp weather, inspect the module area and connectors for moisture
- Check for damp carpets or water tracks near the module location (water intrusion can cause intermittent failures)
- Step 7: Inspect and reseat module connectors
- Inspect for corrosion/green pins, bent/pushed-out pins, loose terminals, or heat damage
- Reseat connectors fully and confirm the latches lock
- If operation changes when moving the harness, suspect terminal tension/connector fitment
- Step 8: Perform a full vehicle scan (recommended)
- Scan body-related modules and record any faults
- Clear faults and see what returns after operating locks/windows
- Step 9: Verify power and ground to the module
- Confirm power feeds and grounds are solid under load
- Weak grounds can cause widespread lock/window failures
- Step 10: Re-test and re-check after each change
- Cycle locks and windows multiple times
- Re-scan and note which faults return immediately vs. only after operating a function
- If the issue is still present
- Call or email UpFix for the fastest help, especially if the issue happens immediately after install
