Important: Use this guide if you reinstalled your repaired (Audi R8 Climate Control Module) and the problem is still happening.
Important: Please do not open/disassemble the module.
- Step 1: Confirm what’s still wrong
- No power / dead panel
- No HVAC response (fan/temps/modes don’t change)
- Communication faults (ex: U0164 / “lost communication with HVAC control module”, 01320 / “no signal/communication”)
- Buttons/display issues (intermittent or not responding)
- Step 2: Perform a clean power reset
- Key off, remove key, wait 2 minutes
- Disconnect battery for 5 minutes (if accessible), reconnect
- Re-test with engine running (low voltage can cause network dropouts)
- Step 3: Check HVAC + interior power fuses first
- Check fuses related to HVAC/Climatronic, infotainment/interior electronics, and ignition/ACC feeds
- If any fuse is blown, replace once and re-test
- If it blows again, stop and inspect for a vehicle-side short
- Step 4: Reseat connectors and inspect pins (most common after reinstall)
- Remove/reinstall the control head and ensure connectors are fully seated and locked
- Inspect for bent pins, pushed-out pins, corrosion/green pins, or damaged connector housings
- Lightly wiggle the harness with key on and watch for resets, flicker, or loss of function
- Step 5: Focus on “No Communication” symptoms (U0164 / 01320)
- If the module powers on but still shows “no communication,” the most common causes are:
- Missing power/ground at the HVAC control head
- Network wiring issue at the connector (CAN/LIN depending on vehicle configuration)
- Connector pin fitment problems (spread terminals)
- If multiple modules show communication faults, prioritize battery voltage, grounds, and gateway/network issues
- If the module powers on but still shows “no communication,” the most common causes are:
- Step 6: Verify stable battery voltage and clean grounds
- Low voltage or weak grounds can cause intermittent HVAC resets and communication loss
- If the issue happens more at idle or during cranking, inspect battery health and main grounds first
- Step 7: Separate control-head issues vs HVAC system issues
- If the panel works (display/buttons respond) but airflow/temp doesn’t change:
- Likely vehicle-side: blend/mode actuators, blower module/resistor, wiring, or HVAC flap binding
- If fan speeds are missing:
- Often blower resistor/module or power/ground to blower circuit (vehicle-side)
- If the panel works (display/buttons respond) but airflow/temp doesn’t change:
- Step 8: Scan and document codes, then re-check
- Scan the vehicle, record HVAC and body/network codes
- Clear codes, operate the HVAC for 2–3 minutes, then re-scan
- If U0164/01320 returns immediately, focus on power/ground/connector/network checks
- Step 9: If the issue is still present
- If the problem started right after work on wiring/fuses/console work, re-check what was touched first
- If the issue remains after the steps above, call or email UpFix for faster help (especially if the issue happens immediately after install)
