The screen turned entirely dark. Clearly no sun damage. Vehicle gets good mpg. The Toyota store provided only a brief summary of the issue, stating that the unit itself has a high voltage issue and needs to be replaced. We want to know if this sounds like a problem with dead displays before sending it in, or if you believe this equipment is beyond repair.

Thank you for reaching out. Does our screen have the yellow sunburst as shown in the photo you provided? If so, then yes, this can be repaired. The main BGA on the unit is the issues. If you have a voltage drop in the vehicle then it could affect the MFD. Any drop in voltage will cause issues throughout the vehicle. We will address the intermittent\power issues and then perform a test with video. I can guarantee that we can fix the issue due to the nature of the circuitry however, we have had great success in the repair of this unit. We take care of touch issues and digitizer issues. The digitizer is what showed the image. If you getting power and you can use full function but it showing yellow then the digitizer will need to be replaced. The photo below is a perfect example of a bad digitizer. It powers and possibly will respond to touch however you can't see it well.
