I own a 1998 BMW 740i. I've just had it a few months, but every now and again the mileage readouts, etc., and all the gauges fall to zero. Still glowing is the instrument cluster (headlamps on). Seems to occur primarily after traveling at a fast pace. usually restarts after a few minutes or after briefly turning off the car, but yesterday night they stayed at zero throughout the 50-mile journey home and didn't turn on again until this morning when I returned to check. Very seldom, they will have a momentary malfunction where the lights will go crazy before returning to normal. The cluster needs to be repaired.
