This "Engine Fault" started appearing on my 2012 BMW Z4. The car still operates great, but the error would not go away, so I took it in to be serviced.
What I've just been informed is that the ECU is faulty, and because the ECU must be manufactured in Germany (I've been told I can't use a used one), the car is a write-off, with an estimated cost to replace the ECU.
It seems absurd that a perfectly decent car should be scrapped due to a minor ECU error, so I thought I'd inquire on here in case anyone has had a similar problem and could provide advise.
