2003 Rav4 The ECU was unexpectedly broke,

Guys My Rav 4 2003 model has a 1AZ - FE engine with an automatic transmission. The ecu was unexpectedly died, and I haven't been able to start it in over a year, and when it starts. it keeps jerking when I drive like it has a bad transmission. or it dose? My local shop wants to replace UCU
I can get a new ecu for $1200, but I'm scared that if I change that one, the engine won't start. or is the transmission going faulty? Can I replace the 2AZ engine with a new ecu for this one?
Or is there another option? how to be sure I don't really trust the mechanic

People did indeed believe that tranny actually caused the problem. It's crucial to remember that waiting too long or driving too far with this issue could harm the gearbox. The new supplier of this ECU for the new 2nd generation RAV is where the issue started. They were constructed using flimsy solder that would begin to separate at 80k and above. Even when Toyota increased warranty years, many would still be out of warranty. New model years frequently have vendors that fail to identify and fix faults.
