How much would it cost to rebuild the ECM/ECU in my 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro? My mechanic just phoned to tell me that my ECM was damaged. He claimed to be able to "re-solder several joints" and fix the ECM. This is something I've never heard of. He charged me an extra $500 for this fix. Is what he's saying even possible? Is it a reasonable price, if so? Is it preferable to just buy an ECM from a junkyard and replace the entire thing?
I need assistance right now because I'm short on funds and $800 is a bit much for a repair cost right now. And I need to get my automobile back.
